Stages - Circuit Tree

Arising like a phoenix from the ashes of change, a new concept for the future of sound will be unleashed in the form of the electronic stage named the CIRCUIT TREE.

Emerging from the depths of creativity, a stunning 28 hours of the worlds most educating and influential styles of dance, ambient and experimental electronic styles will be played throughout the weekend. This will take place within a glimmering structure; a 12 x 12m geo-dome, with a dedicated outside chill-out area including small tables, giant pillows, and soft lighting to help you relax when needed but close enough to be entertained by the sounds within the CIRCUIT TREE.

Join the insurgence and become a part of the sonic revolution at this unforgettable festival, Grassroots and the Circuit Tree’s ‘education of sound’.

We have gathered some of the finest established artists and DJ's and live artists. From such record labels as PLANET-MU, LOVELOVE RECORDS, RETOX RECORDS, HORSE PLAY, CACTUS ISLAND and DRIP DRY, just to name a few.

A wonderful wild mix of musical madness and beauty, from spaced out sounds, blissed out ambient, techno, dub, breakcore, and tech house, be ready to relax or dance, to the music for some late night futuristic jackin’ under the stars or inside the dome….

The Line-up!

(All acts subject to change, times and line-up)

JIM MASTERS
He's been immersed in the UK dance scene since the early 80s. As DJ and promoter Jim has been responsible for some of the most popular nights in the UK. Probably most famous for BASE, one of the strongest and longest running techno nights in the UK, which Jim ran with Carl Cox for 7 years, it has proved ever more popular with regular nights in London at Velvet, The End & Europe plus events around the world. He was Dj'ing & promoting these warehouse events and a trip to Ibiza did nothing but encourage him. There he discovered clubs offering an alternative to the tabloid rave scene in the UK. - The Balearic sound where the beats came slower and the crowd vibe much more relaxed. Around this time Jim was at Touch magazine, part of Kiss FM & from there he joined the soon to open Ministry of Sound running press & promotion, then becoming a director. Responsible for the club & record label, he took them to world famous status with a 27 date tour across the US. Jim also runs the vapor stage at Glade festival - http://www.myspace.com/jimmasters

ITAL TEK (planet mu)
Going from strength to strength and signed to the amazing record label PLANET-MU and SQUARE RECORDS, playing alongside the likes of CLARK (warp records) mu-ziq, shitmatt and many other fine artists, that aside it is in no means a reason to judge as ital tek stands as high as the artists he plays alongside, Grassroots is pleased to have ital booked to play as he is playing many venues and festivals this year including a favorite of the circuit tree, Glade festival… If you are new to this artist you will not be let down! He has played sets across the Uk and worldwide, the first installment to the area was at the Contact events held monthly at club Dissident, after showcasing his early talent we are very excited to hear how much he has grown in his musical diversity and stature within the scene.. http://www.myspace.com/italtekmusic

KEY (KI) - (live techno + visuals)
Key is a live techno project with a fully integrated a.V show. ‘We've been DJ'ing and playing live under various different names for years... We've travelled to Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa, France, Holland, Spain, Italy... and closer to home we've got a good relationship with local party organizers that give us the freedom to play what we want. Over the last 2 or 3 years we've developed a combined live setup using outboard samplers, sequencers and FX... giving us endless knobs to twiddle and the freedom to improvise... at any moment we can take it all the way or strip right back... every set is completely unique.’ http://www.myspace.com/kitechno / http://www.musiciam.co.uk/keyhole.htm

Soundhacker (cactus island)
Crunchy, deep and atmospheric Electronica of the highest order. Complex rhythmic structures and exceptional programming guide you through the shimmering tracks that weave and flow with dark beauty. Musically strong, the cuts specifically designed to play with your senses, with releases on many labels and producing new music but always challenging there own style, sound hacker are a duo not to take lightly with there approach to electronica being warm and very cleverly structured, but always laying a strong deep moving sound to their live sets… http://www.myspace.com/soundhackeraudio

Sys-ex (retox records)
Lee Ashton has been producing and DJ’ing techno music for over ten years. His first release was the Double Life EP, with techno trio Amphibian, on Inform Records in 2002. He studied for two years as a sound engineer in Nottingham and has fond memories of performing live PA’s at The Bomb and Double Bubble.

His Emitter Prime EP was released in 2004 on the highly acclaimed 65D Maverick label Inceptive Records. Whilst part of the roster at Inceptive, his music caught the ears of Ben Simms, Claude Young, and Mark Williams and his favourite track from Emitter Prime, Footsteps, received Radio One play. Now assigned to retox record and always challenging any crowd with his influential sound and extensive record collection, educating is a strong sense in sys-ex and his vision of dance music to the people. Lee is now a resident DJ at Contact, Peterborough’s premiere techno night. http://www.myspace.com/exsys

Le JOCKEY (horseplay records)
Johnny Davies. Classically trained, choir boy turned minimal house producer. Started playing the violin at the tender age of three, and later took on the piano and percussion, both kit and tuned/orchestral. Johnny was a chorister at Jesus college choir in Cambridge and was head boy for a year. He played violin in (and lead) the school orchestra. Started producing music on an Atari at the age of 13, and started listening to house around the age of 18. Has played gigs in Madrid, San Sebastien and Budapest, as well as regular dates in Cambridge, London, and all across the UK. Has shared the booth with Derrick May, Mr C, Jim Masters, Chicken Lips, Paul Woolford, Pure Science and Jon Carter. He also runs horseplay records which is a very respected record label. http://www.myspace.com/lejockey

Micromattic (horseplay records)
With the incredible technology wizard, electronica artist, beatboxer, improviser, martial artist, veganist, spiritual leader and I think quite possibly a human being Matt Venn http://www.mattvenn.net/ Together we developed Micromattic - a truly groundbreaking concept for stage presentation of electronic music which is great fun to watch and is fully integrated with the audience, which we think is something the electronic music world often lacks.

How we do it? Easy! We manipulate sound through movement with Nintendo Wii controllers, we beatbox and use our voices to generate sounds which we then loop, warp and twist in abstract textures! Now imagine all this served on a base of classic Microwave monochrome deep hypnotic techno grooves This is what you can expect to hear and see from us. http://www.myspace.com/microwavesounds

Mindtours
Originally from the North East of England, but now residing in Wales, Steevio has a long history of creating electronic music. He co-managed the UK's first electro / breakdance club 'The Sidewalk' in Newcastle in the early 1980's, and was the driving force behind 'Acid' an early experimental electro outfit. He later went on to form the influencial acid label Roost Records, recording under the name 3000003. In 1997, he co-founded the techno-funk label Torque Recordings, and then began releasing tracks under the names Mindtours and Free Radicals with co-writer Charlie Henderson.

Steevio helped to form the Mindtours label in 2000, and began making deeper, more experimental music, with flavours of techno, house, broken beat, dub and jazz.

He has always remained true to the live approach to electronic music production, and favours analogue synthesis. http://www.mindtours.co.uk/about.htm
